Roxanne Permesly, LMHC Biography

Roxanne Permesly, LMHC began her career working in the field of education after completing her degrees at Tufts University and Boston University with emphasis on child development and counseling. Prior to relocating to Sarasota in 1990 with her husband, Dr. Scott Permesly, a Harvard-trained, board certified child and adult psychiatrist, she had worked in academic, in-patient, and out-patient settings in Boston, Princeton, and Clearwater.

Roxanne is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Certified Family Mediator. She provides therapy to individuals, couples, and families with an emphasis on self-esteem, attachment issues, relationship problems, and communication repair. Roxanne has a diversity of skills which aid her in varying the treatment to fit the particular person and situation presented. She creates a close, supportive relationship in the counseling setting to assist each person in moving forward through open discussion, developing personal insight, and offering workable suggestions.

Frequently the work takes her out of the office into either the educational or legal community. Roxanne works with school staff and parents to define suitable interventions. Based on her experience as a child study team director, she can work towards creative and workable in-school and at-home strategies. As a qualified parenting coordinator and social investigator, she is most interested in developing a collaborative team with parents and the legal professionals to keep the focus on parenting and children.
